MANILA — PLDT has opened its newest data center in Makati, the company’s 7th and biggest in its portfolio aimed to service the growing digital storage and compute needs of various verticals.
Eric Alberto, PLDT executive vice president and ePLDT president, said the VITRO data center would run up to P4-billion in cost once all of its five floors are fully completed. The facility, which was set up by PLDT unit ePLDT, is a disaster-proof building with various security and operational redundancies that sports 3,600 racks on a nearly two hectare plot.
“We see an explosion in terms of digital services being required by enterprises and this is what we are preparing for,” Alberto said.
After Makati, PLDT is next set to open new data centers in Clark, Davao, and Cebu to reach 10 data centers by year-end with a total investments of P10 billion. Alberto said they are on track to hit 10,000 rack capacity in 2017 by expanding their existing sites.
“PLDT is investing heavily in our VITRO data centers as we believe that these facilities are one of the basic building blocks of the country’s digital economy. This data center will be vital resource for companies as they ramp up their own digital services,” PLDT chair Manny V. Pangilinan said in a press statement.
