MANILA — 2016 promises to be a pivotal year for the information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) industry in the Philippines. This year, the industry recalibrates its targets and sets a more ambitious goal for itself as it faces the prospect of a future defined by unprecedented advancement in technology.

As the industry sets for accelerated growth and development, it is also expanding its ambition to touch more lives through its annual gift-giving activity.

For seven years, My Dream in a Shoebox has been providing smiles to the faces of countless children across the country. The campaign, which is spearheaded by integrated marketing communications agency, TeamAsia and the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), gives underprivileged children across the country school supplies packed in shoeboxes with the aim to help them dream #BiggerDreams.

In the past seven years of the program, My Dream in a Shoebox has touched the lives of over 100,000 children in different parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

In its eighth year, the program aims to collect 75,000 shoeboxes filled with pens, pencils, papers, and crayons that will be distributed to impoverished children nationwide.

“The IT-BPM industry believes that education is a key to the development of our country,” said Benedict Hernandez, IBPAP Executive Committee chairman, Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP) president, and Accenture Philippines Service Delivery Operations lead.

“We know that by investing in the education of our youth through My Dream in a Shoebox we help build a brighter future not just for the industry but also for our communities,” he added.

Hernandez said that with a new set of goals laid out in the Philippine IT BPM Roadmap 2022, there must be a concerted effort from both public and private sectors to encourage the advancement of education.

He said a well-educated workforce is vital in ensuring that the country remains competitive in the global IT-BPM stage while contributing to the overall growth of the country.

This year, the program will help the children of Payatas Orione Foundation, SOS Children’s Village, San Pedro Calungsod Parish, Ascension of Our Lord Parish, and other organizations directly benefiting students in need. It will also be distributed to children from different public schools in the country.

“We want to enable children from across the nation to seek education so they can have a brighter future. And we know that at times what stops them from going to school is the lack of supplies. Through this initiative, we hope to bring universal access to education to as many children as possible. They are the future of this country. We want be part of this growth,” said Monette Iturralde-Hamlin, TeamAsia president.

On its eighth year, My Dream in a Shoebox is inviting everyone to partake in this worthy effort by donating shoeboxes filled with school supplies and cash for the beneficiaries of the project.
