Convergys, the largest BPO company in the country employing over 40,000, has assured the results of the US Presidential election will not impact on its operations in and outside the US, including the Philippines.
“For those concerned about loss of jobs outside the United States as a result of this election, I want to assure you that nothing is different today than it was on Monday,” said Convergys Worldwide President Andrea Ayers in a post on FaceBook.
Ayers even revealed of the company’s continued expansion in the US and outside. With headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, Convergys employs nearly 120,000 employees who serve clients in over 87 countries. In the Philippines, from a single contact center in Manila which opened in 2003, Convergys now has 34 contact center facilities in the Philippines. It employs over 40,000 Filipinos.
“This year and next we will open sites or expand in every region in which we operate – this includes the United States,” Ayers added.
Ayers took to the social media to assure that no jobs will be lost as a result of some developments that are feared to affect Convergys and other American companies doing business in the Philippines.
“I say this not just in the wake of the US election, but in reaction to a global climate where inflammatory words – whether about the merits of Brexit, US-Filipino relations, or US domestic and international policy – are sometimes valued above civil debate,” she said.
Then US presidential candidate and now president-elect Donald Trump has been vocal about his protectionist policies, including getting back US jobs that have been outsourced to other countries. Before this, Philippine President Duterte, also elected in the May election, was also vocal about his displeasure with the US and even called for a “separation” from its strongest ally.
Despite the controversial tone, Ayers said that a clear mandate of the election is a US economy that addresses the needs of all of people, not just some.
“This is consistent with our focus on growth and job creation globally. It is also consistent with our continued work in our communities and with our governments to ensure that people are skilled and able to take advantage of the jobs available today and the future,” she added.
Ayers explained that there is a difference between campaigning and governing, just as there is a difference between rhetoric and policy.
“We will vigilantly watch for changes in law that would negatively impact our business – just as we have done in every administration for the last several decades,” she added.
Ayers stressed that just like most large US-based companies, Convergys will advocate for its people, communities, and its business, which is intimately and positively entwined with the global community.
“In our system, separation of powers ensures that no single person can arbitrarily affect significant change,” she said.
