Moving Forward, CCAP Looks at Full Compliance to Data Privacy

Local outsourcing companies will see to it that full compliance to data privacy laws is achieved soon
Data privacy protection is becoming a very serious business concern amidst the ever increasing threats posted by hacking, data breach, and all forms of data theft. To increase the awareness of business leaders on how they can protect their companies, the Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP) is co-holding the Data Privacy Asia 2017, in partnership with Data Privacy Asia Pte. Ltd. of Singapore, which unfolds at the Makati Shangri-La Manila.
Carrying the theme “Data Privacy and Cyber Security: Impact on Outsourcing,” CCAP President Jojo Uligan said the association and its member-companies are now moving forward a new phase in its education program that hopefully will lead to full compliance.

“Prior to this, our focus was more on fully understanding what data privacy is all about. Right now, our concerns are how it will affect our industry and the Philippine economy, our people, and the way we do business. Moving forward, it will be more about making sure everyone complies,” declares Uligan.
The Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT – BPM) industry continues to be one of the country’s top economic contributors, and is perceived to eventually overtake Overseas Filipino Workers as a top contributor to the country’s offers. After educating its members and the industry as to value and the importance of full compliance to data privacy laws, the next phase would be implementation.

“Before, it was really more of people getting to understand what data privacy is all about and why is it important. Now that we know how important it is, the next thing now is how to implement or if there are things we need to change or innovate to be able to comply with certain provisions,” Uligan adds.
Uligan noted that implementation means they’re going to show to their clients what they and the industry have been doing and have accomplished as regards compliance. “At the end of the day, it’s about how the industry and the people will benefit out of such compliance.”

The one-day summit is recognized as Asia’s premier Data Protection, Privacy, and Cyber Security conference that gathers the biggest outsourcing players within the region in the world. Topics that relate to sensitive global issues such as data privacy and network security frameworks will be at the forefront during the summit among other equally relevant topics deemed to have an effect not just on the outsourcing industry but also many industries around the world, particularly those that involve handling, security, and storing sensitive business and personal information.

CCAP Chairman Benedict Hernandez said that the data privacy summit will not just provide insights but will show the way to the next level in terms of compliance for CCAP members. “What we will learn during the summit will be very valuable in helping lead the way for our members toward compliance. The relevance of the speakers’ insights will be of great help to the in terms of understanding vital issues related to data privacy and how these will impact in the way they do business,” Hernandez said.
