FOR VXI PH, PASSION FOR PEOPLE RUNS IN THE BLOOD

The Philippine Red Cross Blood Services Platinum Award. VXI PH is recognized this year
for the “continuing support in the promotion of voluntary blood donation
and in the organization of mobile blood donations”
Give someone another chance at life.
This is the mantra Jarwin Navales quietly recites in his mind, watching the blood bag slowly fill with viscous crimson liquid.
The Security Specialist is just one of the thousands of VXI Philippines (VXI PH) employees who volunteer annually and support the blood drive conducted in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).
It is because of employees like Navales that VXI PH was able to donate a total of 727 units of blood to date, and marking this milestone is the awarding of the Blood Services Platinum Award held on July 20, 2017, at the PRC Multipurpose Hall and Training Center in Mandaluyong City. PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon and Department of Health Secretary Dr. Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial were present during the awarding ceremony.
Dr. Arnette De Guzman, VXI PH Senior Company Physician, was present to accept the award.
The 36-year-old Navales, who joined VXI PH in 2014, believes that blood is an important commodity, and there is no telling who would be in dire need of this precious resource in the future. “One day that someone may be a close relative, a friend, a loved one, or even you.”

Ruffa Jimenez has seen firsthand many people whose lives depended on available blood ready for transfusion – a scarcity, especially in many rural areas. Working as a registered nurse after graduating from Brokenshire College and prior to joining VXI PH in 2013, the 26-year-old Admin Officer from Davao saw how patients – some, her friends – struggled just to get blood in order to get better and overcome their medical ordeal. “I’ve witnessed patients and their families, and even some of my friends, in hospitals and in different offices of various Red Cross chapters in dire need of blood. This motivated me to donate blood whenever I can.”
Colleague and fellow Davaoeña Sharmaine Pelicano finds a sense of fulfillment “knowing my blood can save a life.” Her first experience donating blood was in 2010 – the same year fellow VXI PH employee Carmelo Catada started donating blood to the Philippine Red Cross. Pelicano, a 24-year-old Supply Chain Specialist working at VXI Centrale, has been a VXI PH blood donor for four years now, while Catada – currently Quality Analyst from VXI Panorama – has been part of the company’s blood drive for three years.
Like Jarwin, Ruffa, and Sharmaine, Anthony Bondoy knows that he is helping people by donating blood. In fact, he’s been donating blood for ten years now, and has been an active blood donor in successive VXI PH blood drives since 2013 – the year he started working for the company. Last year, Bondoy donated blood three times – twice to help relatives. Bondoy hopes he gets another chance to donate blood before the year ends, and is looking forward to VXI PH‘s blood drive next year.
“I love sharing my precious blood,” beamed the 41-year-old Asset Specialist currently stationed at VXI Makati.
The willingness of VXI PH employees to help save lives by donating blood is a source of great pride for the company.
“Helping save people’s lives by donating blood is a selfless and courageous act, and we promise to stay committed to this very important mission. Everyone here at VXI PH has embraced our employee value proposition Passion for People, and that means extending whatever help we can offer to anybody and everybody, not just our employees,” VXI PH Executive Vice President and Country Manager Jared Morrison said.
“The Blood Services Platinum Award is for each and every employee who came forward, volunteered, and donated blood. May this also inspire others to become donors in our future blood drives,” Morrison added.
VXI PH employees have been donating blood since 2006, with a total of 727 units of blood already donated following the most recent blood drive conducted across Metro Manila and Davao sites.
The VXI North EDSA blood donation took place on March 31, followed by VXI MOA on April 1. VXI Waltermart employees donated blood on April 6, followed by VXI Makati the next day, April 7. In Davao, blood donation took place on April 26 and 27 and on May 5.
The annual blood drive is just one of the several corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs VXI PH is actively engaged in. VXI PH, awarded Best Contact Center & BPO Company of the Year and named finalist in the Best Company of the Year and Best Employer of the Year categories at the 11th International ICT Awards, also supports My Dream in a Shoebox, a campaign spearheaded by Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) which aims to help underprivileged kids reach for a brighter future by distributing shoeboxes filled with school supplies. VXI PH is also in partnership with Mabuhay Deseret Foundation, a surgical charity organization providing medical treatment to the poor, and with Gawad Kalinga in building the P2.1 million peso-VXI GK Village housing project in Brgy. Poblacion 8, Lawaan, Eastern Samar to provide the victims of Typhoon Yolanda new homes.
