NEZDA LAUNCHES “VILLAGE FOR INDIGENOUS LIVELIHOOD LEARNING AND EDUCATION” CENTERS AMIDST THE PANDEMIC
Date:

November 10, 2021, Makati City – The global pandemic has challenged a lot of companies from all over the world and Nezda was not spared of the impact that the COVID-19 crises have given. However, while most, if not all companies were focused on finding ways on how to get back on their feet, Nezda did not forget its commitment to uplift less fortunate communities all over the Philippines – even when the past two years brought so much struggles in the organization.
This 2021, through Nezda VILLE (Village for Indigenous Livelihood Learning and Education) under Nezda SERVES which is Nezda’s flagship CSR Initiative, built two educational learning facilities were established in the remote areas of Iba, Zambales and Bontoc, Mountain Province. By helping construct learning centers and providing free education for indigenous mountain and coastal communities in the Philippines, Nezda aims to inspire more businesses from all over the country to give back to the community.
This project was conceptualized as we realized how badly the education sector of the country has been hit by the COVID-19 crisis. The “new normal” for learning posed great challenges to the indigenous communities given their means for online learning are limited and close to none. Even module-based setups were extremely difficult because community elders had no access to quality education during their time, making most, if not all indigenous parents, unable to read and write.
The Nezda VILLE learning centers are unique educational facilities that combine traditional livelihood with 21st-century technology and culture aimed at providing free & sustainable learning opportunities. Each center is equipped with desktop computers, a mini library filled with different books for all ages, educational toys and a daily learning session with local teachers hired from the local community. Students are encouraged to go and utilize the center for their modules and assignments with the teacher as their tutor.
Nezda VILLE is a project designed to promote educational success by providing free educational resources that inspire and entertain indigenous kids. Nezda wants all these kids to grow up believing they can achieve their dreams – no matter where they live or what their situation looks like. In Nezda, everyone believes that education improves the lives of others and it leaves a community and the world better than how it was found – and these Nezda VILLEs in Zambales and Mountain Province are only two of the many more learning centers that the company plans to build in the future.
